The South East Ridge of Makalu (8463m) is fifth highest mountain in the world. It is 8463m / 27765ft. Makalu is situated 14 miles east from the Everest in the Khumbu region. It looks like pyramid with its four ridges. Tumlingtar from where the walk starts into Base Camp. Makalu is situated within the Makalu Barun National Park and Conservation Area. American expedition team in 1954 tried to conquer Makalu. Team had examined two routes: South East Ridge and North West Ridge. Makalu West Face is challenging route with hanging ice fall, ice-rock.
This region is blessed with an incredible diversity of natural beauty and culture. Due to its isolation and lack of tea houses this area still receives few trekkers. Sherpa, Rai and Limbus are main habitants in this area. Walking north up the Arun River to Sedua and Num, then crossing Barun La into the upper Barun Khola valley for a close look at Makalu . You can put together even wilder trek by crossing Sherpani Col and west Col into the upper Hongu valley. The second part of the trek is very difficult and almost impossible without previous experience.
